NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety

Via our Sister Company JNC Safety Services Ltd, we offer the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

The course covers a wide range of topics including how to effectively manage health and safety, identify and control workplace hazards and key legal requirements.

The NEBOSH General Certificate Certificate is a Level 6 qualification which is accredited and credit rated by the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA).

The certificate is globally recognised and are suitable for persons starting out in the safety profession or for Managers / Directors with responsibilities for health and safety in the workplace. There are no entry requirements for this qualification and no previous health and safety knowledge is required although it is advisable that delegates do have an understanding of the basic practical aspects relating to workplace(s). Unit NG1: Management of Health and Safety

  • Element 1 – Why we should manage workplace health and safety
  • Element 2 – How health and safety management systems work and what they look like
  • Element 3 – Managing risk – understanding people and processes
  • Element 4 – Health and safety monitoring and measuring

Unit NG2: Risk Assessment

  • Element 5 – Physical and psychological health
  • Element 6 – Musculoskeletal health
  • Element 7 – Chemical and biological agents
  • Element 8 – General workplace issues
  • Element 9 – Work equipment
  • Element 10 – Fire
  • Element 11 – Electricity

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, delegates will have developed the skills to:

  • Justify health and safety improvements using moral, financial and legal arguments
  • Advise on the main duties for health and safety in the workplace
  • Help their organisation manage contractors, take part in incident investigations
  • Complete general risk assessments of their own workplace
  • Work within a health and safety management system
  • Recommend further control measures and planning actions
  • Recognise workplace changes that have significant health and safety impacts
  • Develop basic safe systems of work (including taking account of typical emergencies) and knowing when to use permit-to-work systems for special risks

Course Delivery and Duration:

This course is delivered by either classroom based learning or via self led distance learning. Duration of the classroom course is 10 days. For self led distance learning JNC recommends spending between 100 – 120 hours on the course. The assessment for the certificate consists of an open-book examination (OBE) and a practical risk assessment project. Fees outlined below include one sitting of the examination.

Fees:
Classroom: £1,550.00 plus VAT per person (fee includes study book and materials, tutor led course away from the workplace, lunch and refreshments, study with fellow professionals, one sitting of examination)
Distance Learning (Self Led): £795.00 plus VAT per person (fee includes study book, access to learning platform for learning materials, one sitting of examination when you are ready, complete the course in your own time)
